Posted by LetsLoop on September 11, 2017, 3:40 pm If All I Was Was Black is the lead single & title track to 78-year-old Chicago soul legend @Mavis Staples's upcoming 16th album, If All I Was Was Black, which is out November 17th and follows up 2016's Livin' on a High Note. All 10 songs on the new album were written & produced by @Wilco's Jeff @Tweedy, who also appears on the album's 4th track, Ain't No Doubt About It. Here's what Jeff had to say about the political tone of the album:
"I’ve always thought of art as a political statement in and of itself—that it was enough to be on the side of creation and not destruction. But there is something that feels complicit at this moment in time about not facing what is happening in this country head on."
...and Mavis added...
"You can’t stop me. You can’t break me. I’m too loving. These songs are going to change the world."
Earlier this year Mavis teamed up with @Arcade Fire on a song called I Give You Power, be sure to check it out if you missed it.
