Posted by LetsLoop on October 29, 2015, 2:30 amDev Hynes has shared a new song (and self-directed video) called Sandra's Smile, his first new Blood Orange track since 2013's stunning Cupid Deluxe. Sandra's Smile is a tribute to Sandra Bland, the 28 year old African-American woman who was found dead in her jail cell in Waller County, Texas after being detained for a minor traffic violation in July: nyti.ms/1KhQChD. The lyrics also reference Sybrina Fulton: “I mean, why should she forgive?/ Do we lose you if we don’t?", the mother of Trayvon Martin who was shot and killed by neighbourhood-watch volunteer George Zimmerman in 2012. In spite of the subject matter the track is funky, upbeat and seems to offer hope for a more positive future. Highly recommended.
